Chapter 14

Tony was running back and forth between her room and Zach’s, when she came out of the bathroom with her hair still in a towel. She’d had a leisurely shower, had gotten dressed and put on some light makeup, very glad Zach had convinced her to let him have Tony to bathe. Zach had insisted it was silly to get sand all over two bathrooms when both guys could just use his.

She’d still gotten some sand in hers, but nothing like she thought he’d had to deal with. He’d stripped Tony down to his underwear in the parking lot trying to keep some of the sand outside. Tony thought it was great fun to take off most of his clothes outside. Emma had about swallowed her tongue when Zach also stripped most of his clothes off in the parking lot, shaking the sand out of them.

The man was built. His wide shoulders tapered down to a slim waist and hips. His arms and legs so muscular she wanted to lick him like a popsicle. After staring stupidly for several minutes she’d finally mumbled something incoherent and had fled inside the building to check in.

The woman at the front desk had grinned at her. “That’s awful nice of your man to try to keep the sand out of the hotel, but being this close to the sand dunes we’re used to it.”

Emma started to say Zach wasn’t her man, but figured the lady wouldn’t believe her anyway, so she’d just smiled. She’d given them connecting rooms, explained how to keep the connecting door open ‘for the little guy’, and with a wink wished her a good night. Emma’s face was probably beet red by the time Zach and Tony came in, but thankfully he’d not said anything. And neither did she.

Now they were all clean and Emma started combing out her hair. She’d decided to let it air dry rather than using the hairdryer. She was getting hungry and if she did it properly her hair took a lot of time.

Tony ran back into her room. “Mama, Mama, are you ready? Me and Daddy Z are hungry as bears.”

“Two more minutes, Tony. Did you and Zach decide what we are going to eat?”

Tony jumped up and down. “We looked it up on his phone and there’s lots of places to eat. Even a place named Emma’s. Isn’t that funny, Mama? A restaurant with your name. They have tacos and hamburgers and lots of other stuff. Do you want to go there, Mama?”

“That’s fine with me, Tony.”

Tony went charging back toward Zach’s room hollering loud enough to wake the dead. “Yay. Daddy Z, Daddy Z, mama wants to go to Emma’s too, but needs two more minutes to comb her hair.”

She heard Zach’s low rumbling voice.

A few minutes later the guys walked over into her room. Surprisingly, Tony was being quite sedate and speaking in a normal tone of voice, even though she could see he was still vibrating with excitement.

She looked at Zach and raised an eyebrow.
